School's out -- time to relax!
The end of the school year can be very stressful. Even if you don't have kids in school, chances are you could use some new ways to "de-stress" and relax. Duke University has a great website with lots of relaxation and stress reduction tools, from mindfulness meditation, to deep breathing techniques, to ways to balance work and family.
When you're read to learn a little more about parenting, Deborah Tucker has written an article entitled "Parenting: What's our Goal?" for the Ventura County Star. Take a look, and please feel free to post your comments.
Going for the grades
If this year was a hard one for your child in terms of grades, you may want to review an article by Dr. Shiro Torquato answering the question "Why Can't My Child Get Good Grades?" It's from one of our newsletters a few years back, but the information is very timely.
Looking for something to do?
Before you hear "I'm bored!", take a look at our list of things to do in and around Simi Valley. While not extensive, it has some good ideas that you may not have thought of before. We'd appreciate it very much if you'd let us know some good places to add to the list. We're always looking for ideas for the parents and families we work with.

Did you know ...
Families Counseling has an online bookstore. We have direct links to Amazon.com for many classics in the areas of parenting, couples communication and other topics related to emotional health.
Our "shelves" are a little dusty, meaning our booklist hasn't been updated for awhile. Please take a moment when you can to see what's in our bookstore, and then send us your suggestions as to what we should add.
With your help, our bookstore should be up to date in no time at all! It's so helpful for people who are browsing the website to see what books others have found useful.
Thanks for your help!
